Imtron’s 2025 Supply Chain Trends and Predictions

Jan 27, 2025

The Imtron team is tracking several 2025 supply chain trends as we head into the new year. Here are six trends we’re watching and our predictions for how they will affect the electronics components market.

Continued Focus on Supply Chain Resilience

One of the lingering effects of the COVID-19 pandemic is the imperative to create resilient supply chains. Manufacturing resilience helps companies weather changes in the global supply chains and avoid disruptions. At Imtron, we will continue to help manufacturers find alternatives to their essential components so they experience minimal interruptions this year.

Tariff Uncertainty

The new US administration’s proposed tariffs will undoubtably have an effect on the electronic components market, as many components are manufactured in countries such as China and Mexico, primary targets of the Trump Administration’s planned tariffs. Additionally, buyers of electronic components, including automakers, operate manufacturing facilities in China, Mexico, and Canada. The effects of these proposed tariffs is uncertain, but experts believe they will raise the cost of producing electronics and other goods for American manufacturers and consumers.

Greater Visibility and Traceability in the Global Supply Chain

Improving the visibility and traceability of goods as they move across the world not only improves security, it simplifies communication between supplier and buyer. From enterprise resource planning (ERP) tools to unique package identifiers, we expect the supply chain to become more transparent in 2025.

Increased Demand for Cybersecurity Measures

While ERP technologies make it easier to track goods around the world, they do leave companies open to cybersecurity risks. As a result, we predict cybersecurity concerns to continue to be a priority in 2025. We expect manufacturers to put demands on their shipping partners to ensure robust cybersecurity measures are being taken with their data.

Growing Domestic Semiconductor Chip Supply

The 2022 CHIPS Act has supplied over $33 billion in grants and $22 million in loans to companies who build semiconductor chip manufacturing facilities in the United States. While building new facilities takes time, we predict the investment in domestic chip manufacturing will help electronics manufacturers supply more of their components stateside in the next five years. This will cut down on supply chain delays and reduce domestic reliance on overseas products.

Increased Demand for Sustainable Electronic Components

Globally, manufacturers continue to look for ways to reduce their carbon footprints. Greener electronic component sourcing is one way for manufacturers to meet their sustainability goals. We expect customers to be interested in the materials sourcing, manufacturing, and shipping of the electronic components they choose for their products, all factors that contribute to the overall eco-friendliness of a component.
